The Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing receives referrals via other agencies, self-referral, and from CCDHH’s Support Services & Advocacy when client objectives coincide with the vocational rehabilitation services offered by CCDHH. Our vocational rehabilitation services are designed to provide community-based learning and training to our adult clients (age 18 and over). The objective of each client differs in, but focuses on, at least one of the following areas: independent living skills, job readiness, and literacy.

The literacy component is designed to meet the needs of each client. English literacy classes are provided to promote social interaction and allow students to flourish in a group-based learning environment. Additionally, we will help clients learn basic literacy skills to ensure they have a strong foundation to succeed in the hearing world. If students do not feel the group-based learning environment is tailored to their needs, CCDHH staff will make appropriate arrangements for one-on-one classes, on an as-needed basis.

Clients are accepted on a first come first served basis, referral, and via recruitment. The Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing staff will conduct an interview to determine that the client meets the following criteria:

  • A consumer that identifies as D/deaf & Hard of Hearing
  • Interested in developing personal growth in terms of job readiness, literacy (English), and independent living skills
