About the Trainings

Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center’s FREE professional trainings focus on building cultural competence and clinical expertise in serving the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

Part 1 introduces clinicians to the cultural and linguistic experiences of Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, highlighting barriers to accessing mental health care and strategies for adapting treatment approaches. Participants will also learn best practices for working effectively with sign language interpreters in a clinical setting.

Part 2 builds on the foundation established in part 1, offering a deeper dive through case studies, guided discussion, and video examples. Clinicians will strengthen their ability to integrate knowledge into practice, expand their understanding of the interpreter’s role on the treatment team, and develop greater expertise in supporting therapeutic success for Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients.
