Signs of Growth
Transforming our New Home for the Community Center for the Deaf

The Community Center for the Deaf (CCD), an extension of Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, is more than a service provider—it's a home for the Deaf community. A place built by and for Deaf individuals, where connection, dignity, and opportunity thrive.

Welcome to the Future of Deaf Empowerment in Northeast Ohio

A Place Where Everyone is Understood—Without Saying a Word

Introducing the Signs of Growth Campaign

The Community Center for the Deaf (CCD), an extension of Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, is more than a service provider—it's a home for the Deaf community. A place built by and for Deaf individuals, where connection, dignity, and opportunity thrive.

The Signs of Growth Campaign is a bold initiative to renovate and transform the Community Center for the Deaf into a vibrant, welcoming, fully accessible hub of services, support, and Deaf pride.

Why This Matters

The Deaf community faces significant barriers every day. Many of our clients struggle with:

  • Access to food and housing
  • Unemployment and underemployment
  • Systemic isolation and a lack of culturally competent support

These aren’t just inconveniences. They’re injustices. And they’re preventable. The Signs of Growth Campaign is our bold response.

Our Vision for the New CCD

The CCD’s new home—a former KeyBank branch on Pearl Road in Parma Heights—is an ideal location, easily accessible by two bus lines and closer to where many in the Deaf community live. As the space was originally built to serve a very different purpose, our goal is to thoughtfully redesign it into a welcoming, accessible environment that meets the unique cultural and communication needs of the Deaf.

We’re reimagining our space to reflect the excellence of our services and the pride of our community:

  • Private meeting rooms for case management and counseling
  • Classrooms and training areas for education and employment support
  • Comfortable social spaces for connection and community
  • Deaf-centric design that celebrates culture, language, and identity
  • Assistive technology like videophones, visual alarms, and real-time captioning

All services will remain free of charge to those who need them most.

Leading with Advocacy

For the first time, CCD is leading regional efforts in social justice and public policy for the Deaf community. With a dedicated lobbyist and inclusive outreach, we’re:

  • Advocating for equitable policies
  • Raising awareness through storytelling
  • Building a more inclusive Northeast Ohio

A Building with Purpose

Our new location is accessible by public transit and closer to where many Deaf individuals live. But it needs critical renovations to become a true community center:

  • Enhanced ADA accessibility
  • Soundproofed, private spaces
  • Expanded service capacity
  • Dedicated community and educational areas
