Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Offers Summer Programming
The Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has offered a range of summer programming to bring deaf and hard-of-hearing children together.
“These experiences can be life-changing for Deaf and hard-of-hearing children,” said Tim Skaggs, Director of the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. “We’re so happy to offer the chance for these kids to connect with their community and find a sense of belonging.”
Some of the events held so far have been at Urban Air Park and Majestic Meadows. These events are made possible by generous funding from Advocates 4 Kids (A4K), which supports organizations serving children with special needs by providing them with experiences that empower them to realize their full potential.
This year, the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing also partnered with TRIAD on several events, including the July 10 Buzzard Cove outing for mini golf and ice cream.
Sandra Hatibovic, Community Outreach Specialist for the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, said the reception to the events so far has been outstanding and rewarding to witness.
“What I love most is watching children realize they are not alone,” Hatibovic said. “They get to meet other deaf and hard-of-hearing kids, make friends, and see that hearing differences don’t define who they are.”
