Project ELLA (Early Language and Literacy for All) was recognized with the 2024 Early Childhood Team Innovation Award by Invest in Children at their recent annual meeting. Invest in Children is the only county-designated office for early childhood in the United States and celebrates 25 years of connecting and convening services to benefit NEO families. The award recognizes the implementation of novel programs that meet the needs of families with young children.
It is wonderful to receive recognition for this program! Our implementation of a public health approach to improving language development in children in every neighborhood of Cleveland with simple messaging and a talented team of community health workers is genuinely unique. The ELLA team is extraordinary and includes Rebecca Mental, our community health workers, Michael Rollins (on data), our entire client care coordinator team, our speech team, and our development team.

Deaf Services Center, Inc., and Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center present this training which equips Ohio clinicians with knowledge and insight into the Deaf & Hard of Hearing community, a cultural and linguistic minority with very limited access to mental health care. This training was made possible by a grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

On Thursday, July 1, 2021, the bill, sponsored by Reps. Andrea White (R-Kettering) and Phil Plummer (R-Dayton), entered Ohio into the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). HB 252 received unanimous support in committee and was passed with a vote of 96-0 in the House.
